Jenny Mentzer, a physical education teacher at Oberlin Elementary School, started OBJump in the 2007-08 school year with the help of two former jumpers who were current Oberlin College students at that time: Mike Fry and Taylor Rodgers. Now in its fourteenth year, Coach Mentzer has built the team into a regional powerhouse and contender at national and world competitions. Mentzer volunteers her time for six hours per week of coaching and eight weekends away each year. Mentzer has multi-year mentoring relationships with the jumpers and supports them as they learn to work as team members, set goals, and be resilient in the face of challenges.
